Term 3 Homework

Dear Parents,

Next term there will be a change in the Year 2 homework program. The weekly review sheets will no longer be going home, as these will now be morning work for the children to complete when they come into class. This will ensure all students’ are completing the necessary revision needed to remember the concept in the long term.

These will be in their big trays stored in display files. Each morning they are to come and retrieve the file, sit down and complete the work. Not only will this ensure all children are completing the activities but it will also motivate students to be at class on time. If at the end of the week these practise sheets are not complete then they will be sent home.

Homework will now be as follows:
·         Home reading – This must be done every night, whether it is a whole book or a few pages, as it helps develop children’s fluency and comprehension. They should write their book into their reading journal and these needs to be signed off by a parent.
·         Spelling - Students need to be practising their spelling words each night in their spelling homework books. There are a range of activities they can be doing. These are found at the front of their spelling homework books.
·         Wednesday Word Problem and Talk Homework – These are to be completed each week as well. Talk homework goes home on a Tuesday ready for our writing block on a Wednesday. Word Problem Wednesday’s go home on Wednesday’s and are due back Monday.
·         Times tables – Their times table booklets should be completed when children have some spare time. They are to work through them at their own pace and once they have finished one times table, they bring it to me to be tested for a new one. This is optional.
·         Study Ladder - If you would like your child to be doing more at home, each student has a study ladder login at the back of their spelling homework book. I have set tasks relevant to the Year 2 Curriculum for them to complete. This is optional.

Thank you for your ongoing support.
Kind regards,
Mrs Caris Szczepanik
